A nurturing, community-led pre-school where every child is known, valued and supported to thrive.

Hillside is a long-established, charity-run pre-school, led by a dedicated parent committee and proudly part of the Chorleywood community since 1979. We provide a warm, welcoming environment for children aged 2-4 years, where every child is supported to feel safe, confident and ready to learn.

We operate during term time only, offering flexible sessions from 9:00am-1:00pm or 9:00am-3:00pm. We accept government-funded places for eligible 2, 3 and 4-year-olds, making high-quality early education accessible to families within our community.

At Hillside, we believe every child is unique. Our experienced and caring staff build strong relationships, helping children settle quickly and feel secure. Children are supported to explore, play and develop at their own pace, while building independence, confidence and friendships.

A key strength of our setting is our small group approach. We use separate learning spaces for our 2-year-olds and our 3-4-year-olds, allowing us to tailor activities to each age group. This supports younger children to feel nurtured, while older children develop focus, independence and the skills they need for their next steps.

2 of my children have attended Hillside (youngest is still there) and it has been the best decision I have made! It totally feels like a family and the environment is so warm and welcoming. Having tried other local nurseries previously, I can honestly say that Hillside has been the best for my kids. It's like a "home from home" but with the best educational support too. This is a truly lovely nursery. My youngest attended here, and I only wish I had sent all my children. The staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely care about the kids. If you're able to arrange a local nanny or family support for wraparound care, I highly recommend doing so - it means your little one won't have to spend such long hours in nursery. A shorter day here is ideal, and the quality of care makes it absolutely worth it. You won't regret choosing this place.

If I could give Hillside 10 stars I would! Sending my son here felt like leaving him with family, he loved every single day and we were so sad to leave when the time came to start school. Our Curriculum

Our sessions provide a balance of child-led play and thoughtfully planned adult-led activities, including music, stories, creative experiences and outdoor learning, supporting all areas of development in a fun and engaging way.

We place a strong emphasis on children’s wellbeing and emotional development, helping them to build confidence, form friendships and develop a love of learning.

We work closely with parents and carers, valuing strong partnerships and open communication to ensure every child is fully supported.
